Weddings are special times for couples and the Parish Family of St. Scholastica wish to congratulate you on this joyous occasion. We know you understand the prayerful nature of your commitment, and so we are here to help you develop a wedding celebration that reflects this understanding.
Our parish takes great care in preparing its liturgy. Our celebrations are always based on the Word of God and shared in our faith community. It is in this context of community and prayer that your wedding will be celebrated. Therefore, the readings and music you chose must reflect the reverence and holiness of this special moment.
With this in mind, St. Scholastica provides the following guidelines for celebrating weddings within our parish family as well as the recommendations of the Diocesan Marriage Program regarding marriage preparation.
· A minimum preparation period of six (6) months is required. This means that your wedding date cannot be sooner than six (6) months from the time that the parish confirms your date with you. · Your wedding date can only be set when the parish office is contacted by the bride or groom. We are not able to set a wedding date with parents, grandparents, relatives or friends unless the bride and groom are unable, due to extenuating circumstances, to contact the office themselves. · Either the bride or groom themselves, or either set of parents, must be registered parishioners for the wedding to be scheduled. · A wedding may not be scheduled if either party has been previously married without first speaking to the priest. · Persons under 19 years of age are required to meet with a counselor from Catholic Charities and the priest or deacon who will preside at the wedding ceremony. A delay may be necessary. · Weddings are scheduled here on Fridays and Saturdays. Saturday times are 11:30 am and 2 pm. No weddings are celebrated on Sundays. · To schedule a wedding date, call Sue in the Parish Office during regular office hours, at 630.985.2351x124. Complete the initial contact information, save to your computer, and e-mail to sgosewehr@stscholasticaparish.org · Our Marriage Preparation Program helps prepare couples who are entering into marriage. The on-line program is called Smart Loving. Sign up for Smart Loving through this link: https://smarloving.org/scholastica Engaged couples also take the FOCCUS survey, which helps them find areas of agreement and/or concern on topics such as friends, finances, religion, interests and family. Sponsor couples meet with the engaged couple and help them process the results of the FOCCUS. |
